On the mend!

After 3 days of IV meds, on top of being put on oral and topical antibiotics, our little Stinkerbell is finally on the mend! Yesterday daddy had to take her in for her last round of IV meds and I guess she had a rough time :( They had to flush her IV 3 times before they could finally start her drip and when they did start it, it burned more than usual. Then she needed a potty break so they had to stop the drip and when they started it again it hurt even worse, poor thing! Besides the ER visits though, this whole situation has not slowed her down one bit. She was still the happy bouncy little thing that she always is and I can't even tell you how many times I've had to tell her to "slow down" and "quit bouncing" lol!

This picture was taken yesterday after her last *fingers crossed* ER visit. Complete with messy chocolate face from the ice cream that daddy bought her for being such a trooper. You can finally see that her swelling has gone down but the skin tissue is still pretty red.
I took this picture this morning (complete with bedhead :) and both the redness AND swelling has gone down!! Now she just has to take her oral antibiotics four times a day for the next week and I also need to keep her topical antibiotic on the skin tissue around the eye. That one is a little more difficult because she does NOT like that one. I catch her in the bathroom 5 minutes after I put it on trying to wipe it all off lol!
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers! It has been a rough few days but it looks like we are through the worst of it. Hopefully now I can get caught up on all the work that needs to be done so I don't fall any more behind!

Hope you all have a great week!

Hello friends!

It's been a busy week in the Knutsen household with everything from furniture stripping to ER visits. Thankfully the two weren't related lol!

On Wednesday I noticed that our youngest daughter's eye was slightly swollen but assumed it was because she had been crying over the death of her new pet dragonfly. (Luck had it that it 'came alive' again only to be accidental stepped on by one of the older sisters...) After her bath that evening I noticed that the swelling had increased just a bit. When she woke up Thursday morning it looked like this-

I decided that it might be a good idea to play it safe and took her to a walk in clinic to have it checked out. The Dr. there had no idea what it might be but said to just treat it like an allergy and give her Benadryl and Tylenol for the slight fever she had. I was told that if it got worse to take her to the ER.

Well, Friday morning when she woke up it was definitely worse. The poor thing couldn't even open her eye because it was so swollen and the lid had started to look a little red.
This is a picture that Matt took Friday before the ER visit-
Luckily Matt was working nearby so he took off the rest of the day so I could take her in to the ER. She was amazing! After the Dr. examined her, he diagnosed her as having Periorbital Cellulitis which is a staph like bacterial infection in the skin tissue around the eye. Luckily we caught it before it turned into Orbital Cellulitis which effects the fatty and muscle tissue of the eye which could eventually spread into the brain if left untreated.

I was completely amazed by this little trooper! Not only did she not cry when the nurse was putting in her IV stint for the antibiotics but she hardly even flinched! The nurse stuck the needle in her arm then had to wiggle it around for about 30 seconds while she located the vain. Then they needed to take two tubes of blood for testing. After all that she had to sit for almost an hour while the intravenous antibiotics were being administered. She fussed a tiny bit the first couple of minutes because the antibiotics burned but then she was fine. Actually she completely happy because she had her own TV in the room and got to watch Tom and Jerry the whole time lol!

Here is a picture of her holding the remote :)

Looking at her IV right after it was put in.
So far my little Stinkerbell is doing well but needs to go back in on Saturday for her second round of meds. Hopefully this will take care of the infection so that it doesn't progress! Keep your fingers crossed!!

Enjoy your weekend everyone :)

Flowers feed the soul.

Happy Friday everyone! I want to apologise to all of you for being such a bad blogger lately. It's not that I don't have anything to show you, it's just that I am having a hard time of trying to think of what to write in my posts! Now that it is summer, I have all three girls home with me and when it is nice we like to spend as much time as possible outside. Needless to say, we have also been going to bed VERY late and when I finally have a moment to blog, I'm too brain dead to do it lol!

I am going to try to be better and at least post cards everyday. You guys won't mind if there isn't any chit chat do you?? Don't worry, I will still include the card details for you :)

I made this card last night and was pleasantly surprised by how it turned out. I think that it may be one of my recent favorites!

Card Recipe
*I used the stamp set Poppies for this card
*The front panel was cut out using Nestabilities, then sponged and stamped with the poppies in Chocolate Chip.
* The butterfly was stamped into Versamark then into Chocolate Chip, embossed with clear powder and watercolored using Cameo Coral and Ruby Red inks
* Butterfly was cut out before I added Diamond Glaze to the wings to help it stand out.
*The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip
*The Nestie panel was adhered to the card base using dimensionals
*I used a corner scallop punch for the corners of the card base.

Color Throwdown celebrates 100 challenges!

Today There She Goes is helping the Color Throwdown Blog is celebrating it's 100th color challenge!

Here are this week's great colors-

I have been in the need of some color lately and actually started this card a week ago but just haven't been able to finish it. As I'm sure you can probably tell, this card is completely inspired by my friend Kim :) Her use of color, textures, stitching and layouts always inspires me.

*I used the newly released stamp set Art Is The Window
*Image was stamped onto Whisper White CS three times, colored with SU markers, cut out and layered.
*The Nestie layer was stitched and sponged with Baja Breeze
*DP is from K&Co.
*DP was embossed, stitched and sponged.
*A corner rounder was used on all layers
